Background

Overview

In 2026 Basani entered a Memorandum of Agreement with the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency, a federal agency under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology established by an Act of 2022, to design, implement and operate the digital infrastructure for Nigeria's national genomics and digital health programme.

Responsibility is divided cleanly. NBRDA provides the governmental mandate and the regulatory interface, and retains sovereign ownership of raw genomic data and custody of physical bio-specimens. Basani designs, deploys and manages the digital health and data infrastructure: consent, registries, accessioning records, access control, audit and interoperability. A Joint Steering Committee with equal representation from both parties provides strategic oversight.
